Finnish eSAF Technology Company Liquid Sun Selected for IAG’s industry-leading accelerator programme.
International Airlines Group (IAG), parent company of airlines including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and Vueling, has selected Finnish technology company Liquid Sun to join its accelerator programme. Now in its ninth year, the program has become a recognized benchmark for airline innovation and investment potential.

The program has two tracks: the Deploy Track, for start-ups that are ready to test their solutions in operational conditions over twelve weeks, and the Discover Track, designed to help deep tech start-ups gain valuable insights for commercialising their technologies over six months. The Discover track is focused on three areas this year: sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), carbon removals and fuel efficiency. Liquid Sun is developing technology that enables the production of renewable - electricity-based sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) from biogenic CO2.
In spring 2024, Liquid Sun launched a pilot project to test the industrial production capabilities of sustainable synthetic aviation fuels (eSAF). Following a successful pilot and funding round, the company is now building Finland’s first pre-commercial eSAF demonstration plant inside a 66 m² shipping container. The facility, to be completed in autumn, will lay the groundwork for large-scale eSAF production.
The Accelerator program supports IAG’s goal of accelerating promising early-stage technologies that can help it meet its sustainability goals. Liquid Sun will take part in a six-month development track, working alongside IAG experts and other startups. This year, the program has selected 29 startups from 11 countries.
