Q3/2025 NEWSLETTER
Liquid Sun’s journey is accelerating. This quarter we’ve achieved important advances in eSAF production through strong industrial and aviation partnerships - concrete steps that move us closer to commercial reality. Each milestone strengthens our momentum and reinforces the confidence that clean aviation is within reach.
Read on for the latest updates from Q3.

Liquid Sun Launches Finland’s First eSAF Pilot with Industry Leaders
Liquid Sun has launched a globally unique pilot to produce renewable electricity-based sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) from biogenic CO₂. Backed by partners Finnair, ABB, Fortum, and Finavia, the project marks a major step toward building Finland’s eSAF value chain and positioning the country as a future leader in synthetic fuel production.
Key highlights:
Strategic partnerships: Collaboration with leading Finnish companies to form a future eSAF ecosystem and scale eSAF production technology. This pilot facility enables eSAF certification and standardization of eSAF production processes.
Technology leadership: Low-temperature electrolysis innovation converts biogenic CO₂ and renewable hydrogen into synthetic aviation fuel, with the pilot facility in Espoo to be operational in autumn 2025.
Market opportunity: The EU aviation blending mandate creating a multi-billion-euro market where Finland has a unique competitive advantage through vast biogenic CO₂ supply, tech capabilities and collaboration across the value chain.
This pilot strengthens Liquid Sun’s position as a pioneer in clean aviation technology and supports Finland’s ambition to become a key producer in the rapidly emerging eSAF market.

Liquid Sun: The Only European eSAF Tech Company Selected for IAG’s Accelerator program.
International Airlines Group (IAG) — parent of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus — has selected Liquid Sun for its prestigious accelerator programme, a global benchmark for aviation innovation. Out of 29 startups from 11 countries, Liquid Sun is the only European eSAF technology company chosen, underscoring our leadership in clean aviation.
Why this matters:
Unique positioning: Liquid Sun brings eSAF expertise into IAG’s Discover Track, which focuses on sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), carbon removals, and efuel efficiency.
Technology leadership: We are pioneering and validating electricity-based eSAF production from biogenic CO₂, working alongside global technology leaders.
Momentum for growth: The programme opens doors to collaboration with IAG airlines and partners, helping us accelerate our path toward commercial scale-up.

Liquid Sun Achieves Major Milestone: CO₂-LTE Pilot Validation in Record Time
Liquid Sun has successfully validated its CO₂-LTE technology as part of the eSAF production process — a major milestone on our path to commercialization. In just nine months, our team designed and built an industrial-scale pilot plant, showcasing unmatched speed in technology development and deployment.
The next step is to integrate the pilot with downstream processes to complete the full chemical pathway for sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) production. This rapid piloting capability is a critical advantage as we move toward commercialization with our next-generation LTE stack.
Key Highlights:
Industrial capability: 200 MEAs manufactured and 20 stacks assembled for the pilot.
Deployment underway: Final equipment installations and commissioning in August in Ylöjärvi, in early September relocated to VTT Bioruukki in two 12 meter sea containers.
Next phase: After integration with the Fischer–Tropsch reactor at Bioruukki, production of synthetic crude will begin in October and continue until end of November.
This achievement proves Liquid Sun’s ability to move fast from R&D to real-world applications — a vital step toward scaling up clean aviation fuel production.

Scaling CO₂-LTE for the Future of Clean Aviation
At Liquid Sun, every breakthrough brings us closer to making clean skies a reality. Our latest step is the transition from machined to pressed flow-field plates in our CO₂-LTE stacks - a change that unlocks cost-efficient, scalable production and brings us in line with proven industrial standards.
Why this matters:
Bigger impact: With our new stack design developed together with Fraunhofer IWU, we can scale from pilot-level to a forty-fold pre-commercial scale.
Smarter design: Increasing the cell area means more efficiency, more fuel, and more potential to decarbonize aviation.
On the horizon: Industrial component production will begin in early 2026, paving the way for commercial eSAF at scale.
This milestone is not just about hardware — it’s about turning breakthrough science into real-world solutions that can transform aviation. Step by step, stack by stack, we’re building the foundation for a future where flying is powered by synthetic aviation fuels.
